Retrain for a new career, with subsistence while you study.
Veterans who need education or training to work in a different field.
The classic "go back to school" track: college, trade school, certification, or an apprenticeship in a new career field, with VRC approval. Subsistence allowance is paid while you train.
This is the track most people picture when they think of VR&E: retraining for a new career because your service-connected disability makes your old line of work unsuitable. It can fund college, trade school, certifications, or an apprenticeship, with your VRC's approval that the field leads to suitable employment. Because it is a longer program, you receive a monthly subsistence allowance while you train.
Getting on it: You and your VRC identify a feasible new career, build an education/training plan, and it goes into your rehabilitation plan. Subsistence is paid during approved training.
