Both pay for school, but they're not the same benefit. Answer a few questions and see which one fits your situation — and how you might use both.

Do you have a VA service-connected disability rating?
Two things almost everyone misses:
• VR&E doesn't burn your GI Bill. You can use VR&E first and keep all 36 months of Post-9/11 in reserve.
• VR&E can pay the Post-9/11 housing rate. With VA Form 28-0987 you can elect the BAH-equivalent subsistence rate — often higher than the traditional Chapter 31 rate.
Guidance only — VR&E eligibility is determined by VA after an evaluation. Confirm your situation with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) or a free VSO.
