VR&E Track · Chapter 31
Start a business when a traditional job is not feasible.
Veterans with significant barriers to employment for whom running a business is the most feasible path.
Business-plan development, analysis of your concept, VBOC coordination, and, when approved, funding toward tools and supplies. It is narrowly scoped under 38 CFR 21.257.
The Self-Employment track is narrower than most veterans expect. It is intended for those whose service-connected disabilities create significant barriers to traditional employment, where owning a business is the most feasible route to a suitable job. It is not a general small-business grant program. VR&E helps analyze your concept, develop a business plan, and coordinate with a Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), and when a plan is approved it can fund essential tools and supplies.
Getting on it: Your VRC assesses feasibility, you develop a business plan (often with VBOC support), and the plan must be approved before any funding. The scope of support is set by 38 CFR 21.257.
