TDIU (Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability) pays at the 100% rate when your service-connected conditions keep you from working — even if your combined rating is below 100%. Check whether you meet the thresholds.

Can your service-connected conditions keep you from holding steady, gainful work?
Schedular TDIU thresholds (38 CFR 4.16a):
• One condition rated 60%+, OR
• A 70%+ combined rating with at least one condition rated 40%+
…AND you can't maintain substantially gainful employment due to service-connected conditions.
Estimate only — the VA decides TDIU on the full evidence, including your work and medical history. Marginal employment (below the poverty threshold) generally doesn't disqualify you. See our combined-rating calculator.
