Rating Criteria for Hypothyroidism
Rating schedule under 38 CFR 4.119, DC 7903 (hypothyroidism, 2021 revision). Criteria are simplified summaries; your specific rating depends on severity documented in your C&P exam.
Hypothyroidism WITHOUT myxedema. Assigned for six months after the initial diagnosis; thereafter the residual effects (for example fatigue, weight gain, depression, cardiovascular or eye involvement) are each rated under the appropriate body-system diagnostic code.
Hypothyroidism manifesting as myxedema: cold intolerance, muscular weakness, cardiovascular involvement (such as hypotension, bradycardia, or pericardial effusion), and mental disturbance. Assigned for six months after crisis stabilization; thereafter residuals are rated under the codes for each affected body system.
