Why your military payday moves, and why early deposit is not guaranteed. The official military payday is the 1st and the 15th of each month. If that date lands on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payday rolls backward to the business day before it, never forward, so you are paid sooner rather than later. Separately, DFAS transmits the payroll file to banks ahead of the official date, and a bank that offers early pay releases the money as soon as it receives that file rather than holding it until payday. Navy Federal posts about one business day early and USAA up to two business days early. Early access depends entirely on DFAS sending the file on time: if the file is late, the money posts on the normal official date instead, and the bank is not holding it back. There is also no set hour. Most members see the deposit the evening before or the early morning of the posting date, and it varies every pay period, so do not schedule a payment expecting a specific time of day.
